MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A pregnant cat, found in mid-September in a gap between two internal walls in a building being constructed in Island View, Mossel Bay, has still not been claimed.
The cat has been nick-named Macavity by the Mossel Bay Advertiser after the title of the famous TS Elliot poem, Macavity: The Mystery Cat. This is because she was found in a cavity between two walls and where she comes from is a mystery.
She was taken to a vet for a check-up when she was found after being stuck without water and food for at least four days.
A sonar scan was done by the vet and Macavity was found to be a mother-to-be of six kittens. The vet had wondered why her stomach was still so round after being without food and water for so long, so he did the scan.
The miracle cat was found by Kyle Lourens, the assistant site manager at the construction of the flats, called Aloe Ridge.

Meowing
Kyle and others on the site had searched and searched for the cat, to see where meowing had come from. Eventually they discovered where she had found a place in the crevice between the walls to rest her pregnant stomach, so that it did not hang and cause her strain.
Some deconstruction work had to be done to retrieve her. Kyle called the cat Aloe, after Aloe Ridge, and kindly took her into his home in Dana Bay.
Rescuing the cat was quite an operation. Some pipes had to be broken to free her.
He posted pictures of Aloe on several online sites, asking for the owner to come forward and the Mossel Bay Advertiser also put a post and a picture on its Facebook site, but no one has responded.

"Aloe is tame and knew how to use a litter box straightaway," Kyle said.
Disappeared
On Tuesday this week Aloe disappeared and on Wednesday returned home much slimmer. Kyle and family followed her to where she disappeared into the bushes next to their house in the green belt in Dana Bay.
The men struggled for an hour, cutting away the thorns and bushes until they reached elusive Macavity and her six kittens.
"They are all doing well," Kyle says.
