MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Ricardi Matthee, a Grade 8 learner at Curro Mossel Bay, is of the opinion that even when you have a disability, you should never give up and always try your hardest.
Ricardi speaks from experience, since this visually impaired teenager is making waves in the sports world.
Despite having extremely limited sight at 2%, he holds national colours in judo. Apart from this, he also participates in other fighting disciplines.
He is also the U15 national champion in the 100m and 200m sprint in his category. Ricardi has been nominated Eden disabled sportsman of the year for two consecutive years. He shares the accolade of Curro sportsman of the year with a fellow learner in his school.
This young man dreams of going to the Paralympics. But in the meantime, he also needs to focus fully on his schooling.
His family is currently raising funds to assist Ricardi in his classes by using the Prodigi Connect 12. This device will help Ricardi to read the blackboard as well as the small print books used at school. The cost of the device needed is estimated at R60 000. A crowd funding account has been set up to support Ricardi. All funds will be paid directly to the supplier in order to obtain the device.
