MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Having come second in the South African Idols competition in 2005 and having released his first album in 2007, Mossel Bay's Gift Gwe is helping to develop other artists and see them realise their dreams of success.
He has started the Gift Gwe Foundation and non-profit company with friends in order to assist up and coming artists throughout the Garden Route.
Gift was forced to return to South Africa in August last year because Covid-19 cut short the theatre work he was doing on a cruise ship.
He said: "I had a contract, performing in theatre on the ship, Costa Luminosa."
The ship went to America, Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico and France, among other countries.
Gift says: "Now I coach artists to be themselves and develop their own style. I help them with songwriting as well as radio plug-ins. Some artists don't know how to send their music to radio, or what they need to do and where to register their music.
"I help them with the rules and regulations and tell them how to get paid."
Gift released his latest single, called Old School Way on 25 May. It is in isiXhosa.
He is enjoying spending time with his mother, Winifred Gwe, who lives in Mossel Bay. Winifred resigned as a school principal about two months ago.
Winifred is also relishing quality time with Gift's children, now that she has resigned.
Gift has six children, four of whom reside with him in Mossel Bay.
