SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday 30 March announced that the country remains on lockdown Level 1 over the Easter weekend, therefore churches will be allowed to hold gatherings.
Restrictions on gatherings remain the same at not more that 50% of venue capacity up to a maximum of 250 people indoors and 500 outdoors.
"Congregants should not gather outside their usual places of worship, and people must go home and not sleep over after services," said the President.
He called on faith communities to not place the rights or the lives of others at risk while observing Easter, Passover and Ramadan and to be innovative in their celebrations.
"While the rate of transmission remains stable, we cannot let our guard down. This is a time when caution is needed more than ever," said Ramaphosa.
Tighter alcohol restrictions
Tighter restrictions on alcohol sales will be in place. Off-site consumption will be prohibited from Friday 2 April to Monday 5 April. On-site sales at restaurants, shebeens and bars will be allowed, according to licensing conditions, up until 23:00.
The curfew remains from midnight to 04:00.
Funerals remain restricted to 100 people and with a two-hour limit on services.
