The police extensively searched the three premises and checked the foreign nationals' documentation to ensure that they are legally in the country. The operation started at the crack of dawn and with the element of surprise the occupants were all found at home.
Operation Kwanele has to date been very successful in the Asla Park area where the targets for the prevention of drug related crimes were exceeded since inception of the project. Drug abuse and drug trading are a huge problem in the area and said to be of the main reasons for the high incidence of other crime in the area.
Crime prevention is an ongoing focus of the KwaNonqaba police and ties in with the Kwanele- and other police operations.
This morning officers and members raided three dwellings in Asla Park where they extensively searched both the occupants, homes and the immediate surroundings for drugs. While in this particular operation no drugs were uncovered, there were ample proof of drug use on the premises of at least one of the locations with plastic bags used to trade Tik strewn in trash and hidden in a brick wall.
"As long as we do not give up trying," said Captain Botha when the Mossel Bay Advertiser questioned him about the scourge of crime in the area. He ascribed the successes of his team to the enthusiasm and dedication of the police members working with him. He said the several successes the Kwanele team has achieved are the result of good police work and the cooperation of the general public.
