MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality is looking at adding administrative posts to the directorate of Infrastructure Services to alleviate pressure on technical staff.
According to an item discussed in the September open council meeting, a need for administrative support for technical staff in this directorate was identified.
The item stated that the increase in administrative processes affect positions previously regarded as mostly operational, to the extent that staff in these positions need to spend a worrying amount of time on administrative tasks, which can be performed by a clerk.
"Administrative support will relieve the additional administrative load on these technical and operational posts," the item read.
It was recommended that council approve the addition of new clerk posts, reporting to the following positions:
• Senior superintendent (Water and Sewer Network Operations – South).
• Senior superintendent (Water and Sewer Network Operations – North).
• Assistant manager (Water Treatment Works) and assistant manager Wastewater Treatment Works (one post shared between sections).
• Senior superintendent (Electrical Operations & Maintenance – South). The job description will include administrative support to the senior superintendent (Electrical Operations and Maintenance – North).
• Senior superintendent (Roads, Transport and Stormwater – North).
As far as financial implications for the addition of these positions go, the item stated that consideration will be given to fund unfunded posts from savings or funds of funded new/vacant positions.
Although the ACDP and FF Plus parties did pose questions regarding the addition of these posts, the item was passed unanimously.
