MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Senior manager, Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services, Joseph Johnston, said late this afternoon the controlled burn at Paradise Coast Beach and Eco Estate near Dana Bay had gone according to plan.
Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management approved a burn permit for the estate.
There were inquiries from Dana Bay residents, Asla Park residents and motorists about the pall of smoke above Dana Bay, the Pinnacle Point area and neighbouring areas.
A statement by the Mossel Bay Municipality reads: “The estate obtained an approved permit for a controlled burn to do fire fuel load reduction. The Southern Cape Fire Protection Association teams, along with Working on Fire crews are responsible for the controlled burn.”
Johnston said that a drop in air pressure caused the smoke to hang low.
“There are no threats of the spreading of the contained fire. In addition to the teams responsible for the controlled burn, Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management is monitoring the situation.”
