HARTENBOS NEWS - Members of a South African Triumph car club will celebrate five decades of motoring heritage when they gather for a national event at the ATKV Resort in Hartenbos from 27 April to 1 May.
According to the organisers, about 60 members are expected to attend it, each arriving in a classic Triumph vehicle, a renowned British marque no longer in production.
The event coincides with the club's 50th anniversary since its establishment in 1976. A wide range of iconic models will be on display throughout the week.
The oldest expected vehicle is a 1928 Triumph Super 7, while one of the rare highlights will be a 1960 Triumph Italia, of which only about 330 were ever built, and this is the only known example in South Africa.
The popular Triumph TR series, produced between 1953 and 1981, will be strongly represented, with at least 36 examples expected. Other models on show include the Triumph Spitfire, GT6, Herald and Stag.
The proceedings will begin with a welcome braai on Monday evening. The activities will continue on Tuesday morning, 28 April, with a precision driving test in the Hartenbos Seafront parking area.
On Wednesday 29 April, the attention will turn to elegance and detail during the Concours d'Elegance, during which the vehicles will be judged on condition, cleanliness and originality. This event will take place at the campsite below the ATKV chalets.
A scenic drive is planned for Thursday 30 April, taking participants to Friemersheim via Great Brak River and back, offering visiting members an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Southern Cape.
On the final day, Friday 1 May, the members will drive their vehicles in convoy to The Point for a group photo before spending time exploring the town's historic and notable sites.
The event will conclude on Friday evening with a gala dinner and prize-giving ceremony.
