MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay woman has pledged to take part in the SPCA fundraising sleepathon to be held on Friday, 29 November, at the SPCA premises on Bill Jeffery Avenue, KwaNonqaba, in Mossel Bay.
Val-Jean Erasmus, who works at Mossel Bay Toyota, has challenged other individuals and companies to join her to raise funds for this worthy cause.
She says: "The love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man. Animals are my friends. I believe animals should be respected as citizens of this earth. They should have the right to their own freedom, their own families, and their own life! That's why I am sleeping in a kennels on the 29th to support the cause."
Val-Jean continues: "I don't have anything against charities which look after people, but animals cannot speak for themselves. They cannot say when they are in pain or when they need something, so we need to speak for them. There is so much more I would like to do for animals in the future too."
She has even recorded a video of herself, urging people to join the sleepathon:
Paul Möller, "a fanatical animal lover and rescuer" has also volunteered to spend the night of 29 November in one of the SPCA kennels with one of the dogs.
Members of the public are invited to sleep over too at a cost of R100. Activities on Saturday, 30 November, start at 09:00. The cost to enter the grounds on Saturday is also R100.
On the Saturday, Identi-pet from Johannesburg will be in attendance. Its staff will be doing micro-chipping of pets. This service is available for only R150.
There will be exhibition stands available, where companies can promote their products. Call Michelle (071 252 6416) at the SPCA for more information or to book your stand.
