Attendees braved chilly, wet weather, during load shedding to attend the event, held in a beautiful, historical stone building in Marsh Street, Mossel Bay.
In true Berenice style, it was extremely well organised. She is an experienced organiser of women's conferences.
A programme hostess on Eden FM radio station, Berenice chose a formal programme for the event and arranged for herself to be interviewed on her book by a pastor, Hein Jacobs. Hein is also a pharmacist.
He was the perfect choice, with his light-hearted humour and wit. He and Berenice complemented one another well. She can be quite feisty and passionate, serious at times.
Berenice said she wanted the book small, so it could fit in women's handbags. He quipped: "I won't be putting it in a handbag."
Rigors of writing
When she spoke about the rigors and discipline of writing and her personal writing process, he noted self-deprecatingly: "I won't be doing any writing then."
And when Berenice explained the challenges involved in putting together the book and that the manuscript went missing for a few months, only turning up when a friend of hers who had it cleaned her house, he said: "Yes, it's always good to have a clean-up."
Part of the book launch was done in candle light because of load shedding.
Berenice treated her guests to good coffee, tea and delicious small cakes and pastries. She even had a cake made with the book cover printed on rice paper.
There was singing and keyboard playing and Mossel Bay entertainer Meryll Brown played a tune on her pan flute.
Berenice's father, Petrus Kogana, spoke at the launch, as well as the publisher of the book, Ziva Spangenberg.
