MOSSEL BAY NEWS - In July the Mossel Bay Advertiser reported on local resident, Karli Stamhuis, who appeared on the arts and craft programme, Kunsvlyt on kykNET.
Kunsvlyt follows a Master Chef type of format, wherein the contenders vie to win the title.
Contenders are eliminated from the show each week and the person who wins the weekly contests and remains the longest triumphs at the end.
Karli, who is more interested in fine art than crafts, was eliminated from the craft show fairly early. It soon became evident on Kunsvlyt that her talent was in the fine art arena, but she is pleased she had the experience of being on the show.
On Thursday, 28 November, Karli hosted a private art exhibition of her young students' works. She gives classes to school children, encouraging them to think outside of the box and to enjoy the experience of creating art as well as the outcome. The exhibition was for her students and their families.
Works on show included paintings, drawings, three dimensional items and even painted stones.
Karli has gone from teaching seven children last year to having 26 in her classes this year. She focuses on developing each child's unique creativity and personality rather than having them try to compete in a traditional sense.

Athough Karli also gives classes for adults, she has found most of the interest in art tuition is among primary school children.
The exhibition was for her students and their families.
