MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Eight employees at the KFC in Heiderand tested positive for Covid-19 last month.
A KFC spokesperson says the employees tested positive on 19 June.
According to the spokesperson, KFC has a solid Covid-19 policy and process in place to mitigate the spread of the virus in their restaurants to ensure staff and customers are safe at all times.
"All the other employees who had been scheduled on the same shift were also sent for screening and or testing at the local clinic and had a seven-day isolation period, as per government regulations until 27 June."
The spokesperson says during this time, the establishment was closed, as it is the procedure that all KFC branches have been trained to follow, in the event of an employee testing positive for Covid-19.
"All staff receive regular Covid-19 training on the daily precautionary measures they have implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19 in KFC branches.
"These measures include contactless services, enforced frequent handwashing and sanitisation.
"Additionally, each restaurant has a daily attendance register where each employee's temperature is recorded, using approved thermometers. "Any staff member that measures above 38 degrees is required to go for a Covid-19 test and to self-isolate until there is clarity on the results."
The Mossel Bay Advertiser received messages from people who are concerned about their health and safety following the eight positive Covid-19 results.
But, the spokesperson says all protocol with respect to the deep cleaning and sanitisation of the KFC was followed.
"Following this deep clean, the branch reopened, operating on reduced hours using only staff from Shift 2. However, another positive case was reported on Saturday, 27 June, with an additional one person infected.
"The branch has been closed and will follow the same screening and testing process to assess exposure of the full team. Furthermore, a disinfectant fogging was completed on Monday, 29 June in the branch and it was only reopened once all deep cleaning processes had been undertaken."
