MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - The Remembrance Day service to honour those who died in the Great War was held at the Cenotaph at the Point in Mossel Bay today, Sunday 11 November.
The weekend marked the 100th Poppy Day - 100 years since the Great War.
Adjutant Bill Frost of the Memorable Order of the Tin Hats (MOTH) gave the main address which included prayers and Bible verses.
He said there were only two words that those who had served in wars expected: "Thank you."
Mention was made of the Second World War, the Korean war and other battles, such as the Bush War, in which South African soldiers had served.
The names of soldiers from the Mossel Bay area who had died were read out.

Adjutant Frost said the soldiers who had died would have wanted us to enjoy our lives and our freedom today.
He said Jesus had died for us while we were still in bondage, to set us free from bondage. "We love you Jesus," he said.
Besides a large representation of the MOTH, there were representatives from the SA Legion, the Sea Cadetts, the NSRI, the Scouts, the Mossel Bay Heritage Society, the Freemasons, the police, AfriForum and a local guesthouse forum present, among other organisations.
There was the opportunity to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph at the end of the service.
Attendees could also take a wooden cross and lay it at the Cenotaph.

The Last Post and the national anthems were played and there were two minutes' silence in which to remember those who were slain.
The atmosphere was solemn and yet hopeful at the end, as Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag was sung.
