MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The importance of making speeches can never be underestimated. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech inspired a nation and broke down racial barriers and President Nixon's speech put a man on the moon.
Teachers help prepare learners to be the leaders of the future. Learning the skill of public speaking will help prepare learners for the working world, where it will be expected of them to address, work with and interact with colleagues, clients and other professionals.
On Thursday, 25 May a group of thirteen learners from Sao Bras High School delighted their parents, teachers and friends by presenting their well-prepared, informative and entertaining speeches.
The purpose of the event was to give parents the opportunity to listen to their children and experience what they are capable of. This platform also provided the opportunity for learners to gain confidence and parents have reason to feel really proud of them.
Awanda Maxongo and Rhufieka Heunis shared their opinion on racial prejudice and Shaun Plato confidently informed the audience about bullying by doing a PowerPoint presentation.
Amy Kirchner, Courtney Tarentaal and Amber Isaacs enlightened everyone present on why music can be considered a universal language. Amber actually proved her point by playing a rhythmic song which simultaneously contributed to a cheerful atmosphere.
Dewante Gelderbloem and Anniel Groenewald warned the audience about the dangers of social media and also shed more light on the advantages thereof.
It was only fitting that Garron Theunissen and Caylin Collins expressed their views and shared interesting secrets about the English royal family especially after the hype of the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Jo-Ann Solomons and Danychia Muller shared their ideas on beauty pageants.
Riché Steyn concluded the event and made everyone think about their contribution to help save our environment especially with World Environment Day around the corner (5 June). Riché emphasised the importance of the role humans play in saving our world in her speech, Pollution and its consequences: Are we humans at fault?
