MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Ethan le Grange (9), a young learner at Park Primary diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, has - apart from a loving family's support - a large proportion of the community of Mossel Bay joining in to support him while he is undergoing treatment.
Since the community has learnt of Ethan's condition, fundraising projects are springing up everywhere.
Initiatives include a Valentine's Dance hosted at La Venue in Aalwyndal on 15 February as well as a crowd funding initiative.
The facebook page, Mosselbaai op sy heel beste, is printing and selling caps and donating a percentage towards Ethan's medical expenses.
"Ethan is currently on a higher intensity of chemotherapy, having not responded to the first cycle," reports Ethan's dad, Paul, who is currently in Cape Town to support him.
"His spirits are high and he smiles often, although for now he is so thin and frail looking. He enjoyed the walk among the large trees here in Cape Town today with us. He absolutely loves all the gifts and messages of goodwill sent."
According to Paul, Ethan is facing approximately seven months in Cape Town with the new chemotherapy protocol. "The family will be here to support him the entire time."
Paul also reported that Ethan underwent another bone marrow biopsy this week, which will determine how effective the new protocol is.
"As a family we are and will always will be eternally grateful for each and every person that has assisted, no matter how small it may seem, as it all counts towards a positive end result."
