Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The whale carcass that washed up in Springerbaai will be removed as soon as suitable machinery is available.
No swimming is allowed at the Springerbaai beach until further notice.
Scientific sampling as well as detailed photos were taken at the carcass today by S.M.A.R.T.
The samples taken is not to determine the cause of death but standard procedure with any mammal stranding.
Unfortunately a full necropsy could not be done as the carcass is already in a severe state of decomposition. The cause of death is suspected to be entanglement.
The whale measured 12.6 m and was an adult male.
