MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two bathers who took a chance to swim at Diaz Beach last week Friday, 27 March, on the first day of the 21-day lockdown, were apparently the last to receive a stern warning.
The Da Gamaskop Police confirmed that two bathers were apprehended by members of the Langeberg K9 Dog Unit.
The bathers, wearing face masks and their swim suits, were instructed to go home as per the national lockdown regulations.
"During our patrols we have found a great ignorance among members of the community. People think that this is a joke, but we can assure you police will take action against anyone in contravention of the law regarding the lockdown," Capt Wollie Fourie, spokesperson of the Da Gamaskop Police said upon enquiry.
Captain Fourie this week confirmed that during the first week of the lockdown, several fines had been issued to those transgressing the lockdown regulations.
"We have issued fines to people moving around without a sound reason as stipulated by law and also to those in vehicles transporting more than the allowed number of people."
Captain Fourie said that static roadblocks were being used to apprehend those not adhering to the lockdown regulations.
