MOSSEL BAY NEWS - There are a number of novel ways of celebrating Valentine's Day but one of the most interesting, varied celebrations must have been the entertainment at the Monroe Theatre in Mossel Bay on Thursday night, 14 February.
Mossel Bay artiste Cornelle Carstens, singer and guitarist Karen Cupido, her brother Clayton Cupido - also a guitarist and singer and poet Jolene Witbooi collaborated to put on a fun show.
Carstens had wives and husbands laughing out loud with her performance as agony aunt Dorothea and the rigours of sharing a double bed.
Her strawberry blonde wig and leopard print outfit were immaculate.
Carstens did three costume changes in all during the show and her gear was impeccable in each. Her pièce de résistance was a passionate ode to the tango, accompanied by a rousing tango dance she did alone on stage.
A British tourist who teaches Spanish dancing back home, told Carstens after the show how impressed she was with the dance because she knew how difficult the genre was. And such is the Monroe Theatre: an environment where entertainers mingle and chat freely and spontaneously to members of the audience after the show.
Karen Cupido has the sweetest voice and gentlest demeanour, while Clayton is a consummate guitarist with a large repertoire he plays without needing to read music. At her young age Jolene Witbooi is already an entertaining poet.
Dinner consisted of five courses of tasty, yet healthy fare.
