MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Arts Society was proud to have arranged for a mesmerising event at Point High on Monday, 9 November.
While maintaining strict Covid-19 protocols, some 200 pupils were in for a rare treat when the enormously popular Charl du Plessis and his trio paid them a visit.
In an innovative and engaging way, the joy and magic of music was brought to life.
When Charl disassembled the valuable Steinway piano to practically show how the hammers work, one could hear a pin drop. The brilliant Werner Spies (on bass) and Peter Auret (on drums) demonstrated how these two instruments add spice to the piano.
In an interactive session, pupils were given short bursts of time to recognise popular music pieces which were played with the trio’s unique touch. When they played John Legend’s hit song All of Me, the hall erupted with joy. A piano student, Janika Pretorius, bravely volunteered to play the piano along with Charl in Für Elize - an event she most likely will never forget. After an hour of being riveted to Charl’s every word, the event concluded with the trio delighting everyone with Jerusalema.
"The Mossel Bay Arts Society thanks the Point High School’s music department head, Louise van Wyk-Visser, for enabling this event. Bravo!" What a joyful ending to the Charl du Plessis Trio’s three-day visit to Mossel Bay where all the concerts were sell-outs. The trio also performed in the Dias Museum on Saturday, 7 November wowing the audience with their superb performance.
