MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Oceans Research Foundation’s Sea the Change youth marine education and environmental programme is to partner with CWP for a fun Trash Bash Clean-up in Ward 1 in KwaNonqaba on 21 September.
The 500 community works programme (CWP) team is to carry out street cleaning and then congregate with general public, friends and family at the community hall in KwaNonqaba.
The aim is to have fun and learn more about marine conservation and have an opportunity to enter a free prize draw to win prizes to connect the KwaNonqaba community with the ocean and the environment.
The first hundred people to arrive at the community hall will receive a healthy cool drink donated by a local business in Mossel Bay, which also offered sponsorship to the Sea the Change programme.
Prizes include an invitation to a pop-up swim school at Santos beach for six 12 to 17 year olds, a white shark cage dive for two people, a visit to the Shark Marine Lab for a family, a trip to Seal Island on the Romonza Boat, a night in a room with a sea view at Villa Palmera and an opportunity to eat at two environmentally aware restaurants in Mossel Bay.
Sea the Change learner, Endinako Msindo says: "We want to have fun and share what we have learnt with friends and family. Many people are scared of the sea; even we were before the programme, but now after learning to swim we love the sea.”
CWP will provide music, Sea the Change will facilitate learning and the Mossel Bay Municipality has provided posters on recycling and waste management. Games and giveaway will be provided by Oceans Research Foundation.
