MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Although the violent deaths of three young KwaNonqaba men on the weekend of 1 and 2 December are still being investigated, it seems revelry and alcohol may have played a part.
Within hours of the incident that led to the death of two people, the illegal firearm used was traced and seized by the KwaNonqaba Crime Prevention Unit in a 72-hour operation ordered by the station commander, Lieut-Col Asiza Madongwana.
A police vehicle on patrol in Mayixhale Road on 2 December was stopped on the corner of Scholtz Street at 03:40, when the community insisted that an injured person be transported to hospital. Once at the hospital, the police realised that two people were seriously injured, one of whom had bullet wounds in his legs.
One man, Siyabonga Sokhaba (30), died mere minutes after his arrival at the hospital.
He had a wound, presumed from a knife, on the right side of his neck as well as other stab wounds on the rest of his body.
The other man was admitted to hospital and was reportedly treated for the gunshot wounds.
Police officers returned to Scholtz Street, where the body of Ludwe Tonisi (19) was found on the road.
The station commander called on the crime intelligence unit as well as other police units and in a joint operation, three suspects aged between 16 and 21 were arrested.
The deceased were both from Asla Park. The KwaNonqaba police are investigating two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.
Anyone with information is requested to contact the police (044 606 5600).
