MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality executive management is in talks with delegates from China to establish closer economic and cultural ties.
Talks recently took place in Cape Town between delegates where, among others, the possible twinning of Mossel Bay with Jing 'an, a district in Shanghai, was discussed.
Discussions centred on both cultural and economic exchanges between the two cities.
Several proposals were briefly discussed and a follow-up visit to Mossel Bay was planned for this week. It was too late to report on it in this week's edition of the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
Some of the proposals that were briefly discussed were a possible economic injection into the development of the port of Mossel Bay, a student exchange programme, the exchange of business delegations to promote economic growth, as well as the possibility of building a replica of the Jin 'an Temple in Mossel Bay as part of a mall development in the area.
Tommy Guo, chairman of the Fujian Overseas Chinese Association Western Cape, Adv Gang Dong, CEO of the South Africa Chinese Culture Development Centre, Mossel Bay mayor, Alderman Levendal, Qiun Chen, owner and manager of Sea Palace Chinese Restaurant in Cape Town and chair of the Soong Ching Ling Foundation South Africa, Gwynne Harding, manager: economic development at the Mossel Bay Municipality, municipal manager Adv Thys Giliomee and Peter Chen, CEO of Innovation Technology cc recently met in Cape Town to discuss closer economic ties between Mossel Bay and Chinese businesses.
