GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route SPCA has warned that spring is almost here - the time when cats breed.
It urges cat owners to have their cats spayed or neutered or consider sponsoring a sterilisation.
In a press release the SPCA noted: "Every year thousands of unwanted kittens are born. They often get thrown out on to busy roads, abandoned, drowned or poisoned. The SPCA is pleading for all to have their cats sterilised."
Facts about sterilising your cat:
- Cats become more affectionate and less inclined to wander off their territories.
- Neutering reduces and even eliminates the unpleasant habit of cats spraying altogether.
- It eliminates “cat choruses”, which are usually caused by unneutered males challenging one another for females who are “in season”, or for territory, therefore minimising sexual and territorial aggression.
This kitten was thrown from a car.
"Please consider sponsoring or giving a donation towards a sterilisation of a cat from an impoverished area," the SPCA urges. For more information, call the SPCA office (044 693 0824/2034).
