MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Soon it will be time for Mossel Bay's very first Soul Fest and many a highlight competes for attention. To wet the appetite, here are just some of the programme delights that festival goers can gear up for.
Biggest three legged pot
Surely the biggest highlight of the Sould Fest is the world`s biggest three legged pot (#760) that will be simmering away as 3000 meals for the disadvantaged communities in Mossel Bay are being prepared during the festival.
The “Pot-aan-die-Prut” concert will entertain festival goers with music legends such as Anton Goosen and Gian Groen performing. They will be joined by the likes of Die Wasgoedlyn - Churchill, Frasier and Nicky Stears and amazing local talent who will also be showcased.
Food Writers talk
Meet Irene Fisher and Irma de Klerk on 13 July when they host lively book discussions to kick off the festival.
Irene Fischer sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a harrowing car accident in 2009. This catapulted her into the completely foreign world of being disabled. She wrote a non-fiction memoir called I am Still Here that chronicles her journey and road to recovery since the accident.
The book is filled with wisdom and the valuable lessons that she has learnt since that life-changing moment. Surprising, sometimes distressing discoveries are alternated with a spontaneous sense of humour that maintains the balance between light and dark, despair and optimism. Irene’s debut novel is also available in Afrikaans, Ek is Nog Hier.
Irma de Klerk and her husband, Sampie is the inspiration for the movie “Vir die Voëls” that will be shown at Monroe Theatre during the festival as part of a film festival showcasing our South African movie talent.
Meet this extraordinary couple and hear the story that made it to the big screen.
Commuting
For the duration of the Soul Fest on 13 and 14 July, the Diaz Express will provide free transport to festival goers commuting between Mossel Bay and Great Brak River providing a hop on hop off service. A fleet of minibuses will run between Mossel Bay and Great Brak River to transport festival goers between the train stops and the participating restaurants. 25 participating restaurants will have special offers to celebrate food with soul in Mossel Bay.
There will be a park & ride as well as a “dial-a-driver” service to promote responsible drinking amongst visitors attending the festival.
