MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Ad Hoc Committee on amending Section 25 of the South African Constitution, hosted one of its two public hearings in the Western Cape last week.
In Mossel Bay on Friday, 30 October, there was a strong police presence at the Mossel Bay Town Hall as crowds arrived to attend the hearing.
In line with the Covid-19 regulations, only a set number of people were allowed in the venue. More people were only allowed to participate in the hearing, should some of those already inside, leave.
Once the hearing started, anyone who raised their hand to contribute to the discussions, was afforded three minutes to make a statement. All statements were thoroughly recorded by the officials present and where necessary, translated to the audience.
The delegation departed Mossel Bay for Worcester where the public hearing was hosted on Saturday, 31 October.
The hearings started on 22 October in Limpopo. Hearings were also held in the Northern Cape. Consideration of the committee's report in Parliament following this roadshow commences on 10 November.
The consideration of the final draft bill in Parliament is scheduled for 19 November and on 24 November, the final report will be adopted.
