MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Representatives of consulting engineers Kantey & Templer will meet Mossel Bay Municipality representatives within the next two weeks to discuss the traffic accommodation in detail because reconstruction of the R102 between Great Brak River and Hartenbos will start soon.
The reconstruction includes the Sandhoogte Road near Great Brak River.
According to Paul Laubscher from Kantey & Templer, the engineers have received a programme from Power Construction that is currently being assessed.
Target dates for the various sections of the road for start and completion of construction are shown on the programme:
The R102 between Great Brak River to the N2 access road near Hartenbos will be upgraded from 26 March until 16 March 2019.
Laubscher says this section will be constructed in half widths with Stop/Go traffic control used throughout the construction period.
The entire road in section B near Little Brak River will be closed during construction.
Laubscher says they aim to work on this piece of road from 31 May until 3 October 2018.
The same will count for section C, because this section, near Little Brak River will be constructed in full width from 4 October until 7 March 2019.
"Remedial works on the bridge over the Litte Brak River will also be done during this period," Laubscher says.
Section D will be constructed in half widths with Stop/Go traffic control between 26 March and 22 September 2018.
Laubscher explained the rest of the sections as follows:
Section E will be constructed in full width and the entire road will be closed from 26 March 2018 to 13 December 2018.
Section F will be constructed in half widths during the same period of time with Stop/Go traffic control.
"Construction of section G will take place from 5 October 2018 until 12 March 2019. Section H will be worked on during June 2018 and November this year.
"The last upgrade will be done at Section J during January next year and December 2019."
Laubscher says due to alternative routes available, certain sections of the roads can be closed off to allow full-width construction.
"This significantly reduces construction time on the contract."
He says the construction times are indicative and can change due to circumstances during construction.
