MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Eastern Cape Porsche Club, which incorporates the Garden Route, celebrated its 30th anniversary over the weekend.
An event was organised mostly for the club, but it was also open to Porsche owners from around the country.
The motorists, mainly from the Eastern Cape, Garden Route and Cape Town gathered at the Diaz Hotel on Friday afternoon, 22 September, and on Saturday they set off for Gqeberha, with scenic stops along the way.
There were 51 cars in total and about 10 from the Garden Route.
While in Mossel Bay, the Porsche owners enjoyed an opening function at the hotel and they went to Super Veloce, a venue in town where custom-made coffee machines, which are engineering feats made by local entrepreneur and engineer, Paolo Mastrogiuseppe, are displayed.
President of the Eastern Cape Porsche Club, Karl Illenberger, said: "We had a rainy day on Sunday. It was really wet."
Some of the highlights of the trip were visiting the Volkswagen Museum in Uitenhage and the SSS Skidpan in Gqeberha. The Porsches also did laps at the Aldo Scribante track in Gqeberha.
Illenberger said the trip home for the Cape Town drivers was disrupted because of the flooding on roads in the Western Cape on Monday. "They got stuck all over the place," he said. Only one of the five or so drivers from Cape Town had a straight trip home.
