MOSSEL BAY NEWS - People of the greater Mossel Bay can use free transport to visit the Transnet Phelophepa (2) Healthcare Train, courtesy of TNPA.
The Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare Train is in Mossel Bay, offering services to the public from Monday to Friday, 19 to 23 August, and also from Monday to Friday, 26 to 30 August.
The train is positioned at the railway station at the Mossel Bay harbour.
The executive mayor, members of the mayoral executive committee and the municipal manager, Adv Thys Giliomee paid a visit to the train on Tuesday morning. The Transnet Phelophepa (2) Healthcare Train manager, Lynette Flusk thanked the municipality for the swift manner in which they facilitated the train's visit to Mossel Bay, and for the hearty welcome they received.
"A special word of thanks also for TNPA port manager Shadrack Tshikalange who did so much to make the rail line available, and to Logan Duthie and her team and the local department of labour for facilitating the local workforce necessary for the smooth running of the services we deliver," public relations executive Wadji Abrahams said.
The services rendered focus largely on preventative care and Phelophepa practitioners, some of whom are from Glasgow in Scotland, will pay visits to local schools and the youth correctional services facility in Mossel Bay. "Much of what we will be doing during the outreaches will focus on educational programmes, dealing with issues such as sexuality, conflict management, substance abuse and other problems identified during the course of the visit."
At the train eye care tests are done and patients leave the station with their spectacles on the same day. Dental care also includes dental hygiene.
Mayor Harry Levendal stressed that Mossel Bay has only ever had a positive experience of the visiting healthcare train, and he urged the management to return sooner rather than later.
TNPA port manager Shadrack Tshikalange met sisters Pedro Meyer and Hester Marais.
Although no bifocal lenses are available, extensive eye examinations are done.
