MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A traffic official's pistol was snatched on Sunday night at his home in Bokwe Street in KwaNonqaba.
Two of the three suspects have since been arrested, although the third suspect - and the 9mm Glock service pistol issued to the traffic official - have not been found.
The KwaNonqaba police communications officer, Sgt Kapp, said the provincial traffic official arrived home with his family in his private vehicle on Sunday at approximately 20:20.
"The traffic official asked his wife and child to remain in the vehicle as he noticed something that made him wary.
"He entered his home and switched on the lights of the rooms as he moved through the house.
"While the official was inside his home, someone switched off the lights from inside the house.
"Three men then ran from the house. They proceeded to the official's vehicle, where they threatened the woman and child with knives and grabbed their belongings before running away," Sgt Kapp said.
The official then realised his service pistol had been snatched.
"He ran after the suspects and managed to get a good description of the men. Later the same evening, based on the detailed description provided by the traffic official, Constables Duitsjan and Filander managed to arrest two of the suspects, who are in their early twenties. At the time of going to press, the suspects were in custody."
"The KwaNonqaba police are confident that it is merely a matter of time before the third suspect will be arrested.
"The constables who made the arrest are congratulated on their swift action."
House robbery
In an unrelated event, a family in Stofile Street was robbed of cash and valuables when criminals broke a window to gain entry into their house while the family was at home.
The robbers, armed with a panga and pepper spray, ordered the residents not to resist, looted the home and made off with the valuables.
The homeowner, however, recognised the perpetrator at the police station when he was arrested on a different charge and made a positive identification.
At the time of going to press the perpetrator was in custody.
