MOSSEL BAY NEWS - High drama unfolded in the peaceful hamlet of Vleesbaai after a fishing trawler, registered in Mossel Bay, ran aground close to the beach during the night of Thursday, 12 January, as reported by an eyewitness in the village.
Another trawler came to the aid of the stricken Vunaliesa, but efforts to dislodge it from the sand bank were unsuccessful.
Mossel Bay's NSRI Station 15 responded to a distress call on Friday morning, 13 January.
"In a joint effort, after a half hour, the Vunaliesa was towed back to sea," reported an eyewitness at the scene.
"Just after 07:20 the stricken trawler was successfully towed back to deep water by die NSRI and a sister trawler.
"The sister trawler towed the Vunaliesa back to Mossel Bay without incident," reported NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.
No injuries were reported and the six crew aboard reached the Mossel Bay harbour unharmed.
