"The Mayoral Youth Advancement Programme relies upon you for it to be a success," executive mayor, Alderman Harry Levendal, stressed. He thanked the municipal directors and managers who are overseeing the programme and who are engaging with the students.
Think big
Alderman Levendal reminded the students that they should rise above their circumstances. "You are now part of a life-changing, challenging and exciting programme as incumbents of the Mayoral Youth Advancement programme. Think big, be an example to others in your community, be the ambassadors of this programme by setting an example, and by talking about the opportunities this programme offers you. Reap the benefits, learn from every opportunity and make the most of every day," the mayor encouraged the young people.
"Use the opportunities for growth and self-advancement that may come your way. Make the most of the mentors who will be there to guide you every step of the way. Ask questions," the municipal manager, Advocate Thys Giliomee, said. He said the programme offered the youth an excellent opportunity to become part of a well-run organisation, where they would get well-earned experience that would equip them for their future careers or further studies.
'We care'
The mayor said he intends to visit the homes of every participant in the programme.
"We care. We care about who you are and I personally want to learn to know you."
The director of community services, Elize Nel encouraged the young students to always remain enthusiastic and eager to learn. "Always be positive."
The Speaker, Alderman Petru Terblanche encouraged the students to always be disciplined. The learners had an opportunity to display and explain the various projects they have worked on in the past year.
