MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Members of the South African Police Services, Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management, Department of Correctional Services, community police forums and neighbourhood watches in the greater Mossel Bay hosted a Women’s Day “celebration” of a different kind today, 6 August.
Members gathered in numbers at a road block on Louis Fourie Road for an awareness campaign on crime prevention, Covid-19 regulations, as well as gender-based violence.
Station Commander of the Da Gamaskop Police, Col Khutala Masakala addressed the participants during the opening parade.
“We are cannot forget history and have to commemorate the sacrifice of South African women. Due to the pandemic, we cannot host the normal type of event, this doesn’t mean that we mustn’t to anything. We are still fighting against crime, like gender-based violence and Covid-19. Women, like before in history, have to take the lead and this is one way of doing so,” she told the Mossel Bay Advertiser today.
The campaign will continue at the Mossel Bay taxi rank (CBD), Tarka and end in KwaNonqaba. Masakala said that more community outreach activities will take place on Monday, 9 August, National Woman’s Day.
