MOSSEL BAY NEWS - During the summer holidays, it was all fun and games for most children, but a few chose to learn while at play.
Oceans Research hosted a summer camp, encouraging local children to learn more about marine life and the incredible coastline.
Activities involved tidal pool explorations, a visit to the aquarium, arts and crafts, storytelling, swimming, and snorkelling sessions.
"We also addressed conservation issues with them and challenges faced by marine life, through games, quizzes, the Keep Fin Alive puppet show, and experiments.
"We had a 13 kids joining us throughout the camp," said Sophumelela Qoma, the outreach officer for Oceans Research.
On the last day of the camp, some of the children were in tears, because this fun learning experience had come to an end.
"They all liked different aspects of the activities, such as the puppet show, the tidal pools, animal charades and the obstacle course. However, one commonly shared favourite, was definitely lots and lots of swimming."
Parents were delighted at what their children had learnt. "Thank you so much for an awesome camp. This has certainly been the best part of their holiday so far. We are looking forward to the next camp," a parent said.
