MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Efforts to create a safe space for learners at Garden Route Primary School to play and relax in are ongoing.
Last week the Mossel Bay municipal manager, Adv Thys Giliomee, Speaker Petru Terblanche and other senior management members of the municipality again paid a visit to the school, where extremely limited space is available for the approximately 1 400 learners to play during break times.
Local attorney and executive management member of the Mossel Bay Business Chamber, Mika Lutchman, accompanied the municipal team on their visit to the school.
Mika is highly involved in several organisations involved in benevolent work in the greater Mossel Bay area.
At the back of the school buildings a piece of undeveloped land is available, yet the topography and presence of large rocks have made it difficult to transform the area into a safe playing area.
In the recent past local contractors assisted with making soil available, however, what is needed now is to have the area levelled and for some topsoil to be added so that grass may be established on the open spaces.
The school was initially built by PetroSA for 650 learners, but 13 years later it is over capacitated by more than 100%.
It is the only primary school in the area that offers tuition in Afrikaans in addition to isiXhosa.
Anyone interested in assisting with the project may contact the municipal spokesperson, Colin Puren (044 606 5000).
