MOSSEL BAY NEWSFLASH - The trial of eleven gang members accused of a vicious attack that left two dead and seven seriously injured started with plea bargaining in the Mossel Bay High Court yesterday.
One of the accused, Donovan May pleaded guilty on a charge of murder.
The rest of the accused face two counts of murder, seven counts of attempted murder and one count of contravening the Prevention of Organized Crime Act.
In the meantime the court ordered a separation of trials following May’s plea bargain with the court.
The men belong to the notorious numbers gang, the 26s, and allegedly attacked members of rival gang, the 28s, in a prison cell they were sharing at the Mossel Bay Youth Correctional Centre on the 29 March, 2016.
The State alleges that they planned the execution of the attack, stabbing their rivals with sharp objects and hitting them with blunt objects.
Plea bargaining with the rest of the accused will continue today.
