GREAT BRAK RIVER NEWS - National Suicide Prevention Week is an annual campaign in which participants inform the general public about suicide prevention and the warning signs that someone wishes to commit suicide.
The campaign strives to reduce the stigma surrounding the topic as well as encourage the pursuit of mental health assistance and support people who have attempted suicide.
The Mossel Bay Junior Town Council's Damian Prince says most of the high schools in Mossel Bay participated in the campaign by wearing yellow clothing.
"As part of the campaign we raised funds to donate to institutes that share the same vision," says Prince. "We also exposed learners to anti-suicide posters to make the message more effective."
This week local high schools were challenged to participate in this campaign by wearing yellow.
Learners from Great Brak Secondary School participated in the anti-suicide campaign. Here they stand with headmaster, Angela Muller (front row, wearing green trousers).
