MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The first R1 million Poker Challenge took place at the Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay over the weekend. The Texas Hold'en Freeze-out Poker Challenge was held from 5 - 7 August. A total of 19 contestants, mainly from Gauteng took part. A few came from the Western Cape and there was even one person from Botswana.

On Friday, 5 August, the guests were welcomed with a cocktail party in the Salon Prive and the tournament commenced at 21:00. The buy-in was R31 500 per contestant. The package included, two nights stay at the Garden Route Hotel and Spa and a round of golf at the world-renowned Pinnacle Point Beach and Golf Resort.

Play was for three hours and continued Saturday morning at 10:30.

A total of R375 000 was given away as prize money. The winner Robert Kay walked off with R225 000, the runner-up Mark Lifman pocketed R93 750 and the third place went to Rudolf Fourie who won R56 250.
