MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Curro Mossel Bay Private School held its matric farewell at the weekend.
A spokesperson for the school said it was a magical night.
"All the ladies looked gorgeous and the gentlemen, so handsome. With all the uncertainty this year, we were sure that we would not be able to have a matric farewell, but luckily things changed with level 1 lockdown status being implemented.
"Within two weeks, parents, learners and teachers jumped in and created a fairytale night. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in the amazing evening," the spokesperson said.

"Special thanks to our head leaders, matric parents Pieter and Zanelle, Tossie Steyn (owner of the Diaz Hotel), Emile Nel (head chef) and Steve D'Elboux (Pix by Steve) for the beautiful photos. Without all of you, the evening would not have been possible."
Other schools in Mossel Bay, however, decided against holding matric farewells. A Point High School spokesperson said: "We did not have a farewell because of the lockdown. Our matrics organised several small functions themselves. Because of lockdown rules, we could not have one large function. Ours is a large matric group."
Cancelled
An Indwe Secondary School spokesperson said the school had cancelled its matric farewell.
Ivan Kroneberg, Hillcrest Secondary School principal, said: "We didn't schedule a farewell for 2020. The academic programme for Grade 12s is too pressured. Also, our parents are challenged financially and cannot cover farewell costs. We are planning a valedictory service and merit evening for the Grade 12s and their parents on 21 and 22 October."
Debra Jeffery, vice principal of Sao Bras High School, said: "Unfortunately, our school is not having a farewell. The learners start final exams on 5 November. Right now they are writing trial exams, which end on 19 October."
Acting head of Great Brak Secondary School, Desmond Speelman, said: "Our farewell was cancelled during lockdown level five. Broad consultation with all roleplayers resulted in the decision that our focus should be on getting our learners through Grade 12."
Some learners chose a vintage look.
