MOSSEL BAY NEWS - During the quarterly meeting of the Mossel Bay Older Persons' Forum (MBOPF), the need for access to basic services was the focus of discussions.
These include water and sanitation, indigent applications, SASSA applications and medical and police assistance.
Information on services and products for the older persons were also listed, such as wills and accessible transport.
It is important for the 60-plussers of Mossel Bay to join the Mossel Bay Older Persons' Committee's (MBOPC) in their wards. Needs and gaps identified by the older persons are addressed during the quarterly meetings.
Alma Kritzinger, the official responsible for Gender, Disability, Older Persons and HIV/AIDS at the municipality, states that the need for services needs to be addressed and therefore the Mossel Bay Municipality will be holding a series of events for residents 60 years and older during 27 July to 17 August.
Sonwa Mbandezi, assistant at the office responsible for Gender, Disability, Older Persons and HIV/AIDS, said that all providers of health and financial institutions with products and services were welcome to participate in the event to exhibit their products or services.
The dates are as follows:
- Voortrekker Hall - 27 July
- Rheebok Hall - 28 July
- Great Brak River Hall - 3 August
- Herbertsdale Hall - 4 August
- KwaNonqaba Hall - 11 August
- Sonskynvallei - 17 August
The purpose of these events is to demonstrate the municipality's commitment to the wellness of older persons and to raise awareness among them of the benefits of physical, emotional, and financial wellness.
Due to the current level 3 restrictions, the focus will be on 50 persons per session in a facility. Therefore, only 25 spaces for exhibitions are available (one per institution or organisation).
