MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - During the past weekend, emergency services in Mossel Bay joined forces in presenting a live enactment of what happens at the scene of a road accident.
During a slick operation and an impressive demonstration involving Mossel Bay municipal traffic, Fire and Disaster Management Services, Metro and By Grace EMS and the police, spectators could get an idea of what happens on the scene of a serious car crash.
The demonstration drew crowds at the Mosselbaai Mall in Heiderand on Friday, and again on Saturday, at the Hartenbos Seefront. The next event takes place at the Langeberg Mall on Saturday, 15 December. At the scene, "patients" with realistic looking "injuries", thanks to the expertise of make-up artist, Meryl Brown, were attended to by paramedics after they were freed from the wreckage by fire services and emergency services, when the so-called jaws of life were implemented.
During the entire demonstration, the various steps in dealing with such an emergency were explained to the spectators. Danny Cat, the road safety icon, also arrived at the scene to pose for selfies with the younger children among the crowd.
"We are very proud of our emergency services in Mossel Bay, especially for the way everyone participated in this important awareness campaign ahead of the festive season, known for its high incidence of road accidents," said Juan Barnard, owner of By Grace EMS, who coordinated the event.
