So said the Western Cape provincial MEC of Finance, Minister Ivan Meyer at the official opening of the festival. "Mossel Bay exports cultural warmth, and with it peace and reconciliation."
Minister Meyer reiterated his message of reconciliation and thanked the Mossel Bay Town Council and municipal manager for their vision to create space also for other cultures at this popular town festival.
The 2015 Dias Festival will be remembered for a fun-filled and packed programme that catered for every possible audience. The addition of a classical music extension to the festival ensured that even more people could enjoy all the festival had to offer and on Saturday evening, there were not enough seats to cater for the number of people wanting to attend the performance by Zanne Stapelberg at the Dais Museum.
The Standard Bank Airshow, featuring Yak 55, Harvards, Mustang, MX2, RV-7, Slick 540 planes and more, offered some spectacular moments, none more so than the Kulula Airlines Boeing doing a fly-past over Mossel Bay.
Cultural dances were spectacular and the riel dancers impressed with their agility and rhythm. Even a Spanish Dance troupe turned up for the festival after having read about it on the Internet and performed to an appreciative crowd early on Sunday morning. However, the dragon dance by the Chinese dance troupe was certainly a highlight.
Young and old, residents and visitors had a blast at this year's festival. One can but look forward to the next festival in 2016.
