MOSSEL BAY NEWS - “The current trajectory of new COVID-19 active cases in Mossel Bay is worrisome. Countrywide the spike in active cases is experienced, yet, once again, the infection rate in the greater Mossel Bay is a cause for concern,” the Mossel Bay Municipality said in a statement released on Friday, 14 May.
ln the greater Mossel Bay, two big gatherings, the one relating to a birthday party and the other to a funeral - have had numerous family members affected.
Again this underscores the importance of strictly adhering to preventive measures.
When necessary, residents should preferably host social gatherings outside and in smaller numbers. When meeting indoors, residents should insist on good ventilation. Wear warm clothes and keep the windows open, rather than increase the risk of infection.
According to feedback, not all residents attending church services are strictly adhering to the regulated requirements, such as social distancing and attendance figures. The Municipality calls on faith-based organisations to assist in this regard.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases’ Acting Executive Director, Professor Adrian Puren, has warned that should the infection rate continue its course, South Africa will likely cross the threshold for a third resurgence in the coming weeks.
The Municipality encourages residents to be cautious and safe at all times.
