MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Maggie Nguta has been in KwaNonqaba since 1989. She runs the Nguta Care Centre, which was recently registered as an NPO.
For years, Maggie looked after disabled children and those children became adults.
Some of their families just left them with her and never came back, others passed away and all these children became Maggie's children. The majority of them are now adults.
Maggie soon became known for the great work she did with disabled people, and she was contacted when people were left by their families at the hospital with nowhere to go when they had to be discharged.
She never said no when asked to take in one more person in need of care.
Currently, Maggie looks after 22 disabled people with eight helpers, many of them going without reimbursement most of the time.
She is also currently renting the property next to her house and building extra sleeping quarters behind her house.
Maggie is in desperate need of food for her charges at the moment. Currently, they receive 20 loaves of bread per week, but this donation is unfortunately also ending at the end of November.
They also need gas to prepare food. If there is perhaps a company that could help with this on a monthly basis, that would be greatly appreciated.
Other items that they are in need of are toiletries, adult nappies, towels, bedding and old walkers, a commode and anything else that will help in taking care of these 22 people.
Maggie desperately needs advice and administrative assistance to apply at the right places for funding. If you have knowledge of this, reach out to Maggie. She needs all the help she can get.
Contact Maggie (063 002 7941). If you cannot reach her on her phone, leave a message, because she is busy most of the time.
