MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Mossel Bay car guard truly went the extra mile when she assisted a motorist whose parked vehicle was bumped in the car park at the Bayside Shopping Centre in Bland Street.
The driver of a van which deposits money into ATMs was reversing and the car guard, Wilna Ueckermann, was directing him. Wilna called to him: "Stop! You're going to bump this car."
The driver went forward slightly and then reversed again, connecting with the parked vehicle.
"I saw the van go into the car and as the driver was reversing I saw the whole back of the car lift up."
The back right section of the car was dented in two places, as well as the bumper, and the bumper shifted out of position slightly.
Wilna bravely went to the driver of the cash deposit van and asked him his name and requested his cellphone number.
"He said he would not give me his number, but as I got closer to him, I saw his name badge."
Wilna wrote down the man's name and his van registration number.
"I told him to report the accident at the Mossel Bay Police Station," Wilna said. The driver replied that he would report the accident after he had finished his rounds.
Wilna truly went the extra mile then. She made the effort to go to the police station the next day to see if an accident report had been made. The police confirmed to her that no report had been made.
Wilna had written a note for the driver of the car that had been bumped: "Please contact Wilna at (her cell number) in connection with the bump at the back of your car. Thank you!"
Thinking that Wilna was the person who had bumped her car, the motorist, who wishes to remain anonymous, called Wilna, who then explained the whole incident over the phone.
Wilna kindly went with the motorist to the Mossel Bay Police Station to write an affidavit about the accident. She also offered to testify in court, should it be necessary.
"I am so impressed with Wilna," the car owner said. "She is really a good citizen and an example to other people. She has helped me tremendously. I am so grateful to her.
"If only the driver of the cash transport vehicle had listened to her when she warned him he was going to bump my car. It would have saved time and hassle."
The motorist said she had contacted the cash transport company and it had asked her to email documentation regarding the accident.
