Daar is wel nuwe regulasies betreffende kwarantynvereistes gepubliseer.
Message from the municipal manager of Mossel Bay, advocate Thys Giliomee
By now, residents are aware that the Garden Route is a hotspot in the fight against the COVID-19 coronavirus. What is probably less well known is that Mossel Bay is the core of that hotspot. Currently, we have 816 registered cases, of which more than half, namely 428 cases, are COVID-19 positive.
It is these 428 positive cases that pose a danger to the rest of the community, especially as feedback suggests that not everyone adheres to the isolation or quarantine requirements.
New regulations regarding quarantine requirements were published. Henceforth, positive cases will only have to quarantine for 10 days. I urge residents to strictly adhere to these requirements.
It is an accepted norm that any person exposed to the virus will show symptoms within four to seven days, while most cases are symptomatic from day five. I urge persons who suspect that they may have been exposed to the virus and who experience symptoms to have themselves tested.
This past weekend the Mossel Bay Municipality lost a colleague due to the coronavirus.
I express my sincere condolences to Mr. Masithi Retsha's family and loved ones. Mr. Retsha was attached to the municipality's Infrastructure Services department.
The coronavirus, unfortunately, leaves its mark on the municipal workforce and as a result, about 10% of our officials are either in isolation or in quarantine.
On a more positive note, the George Airport reopens tomorrow, and Mossel Bay Municipality welcomes the fact that flights to and from the district will resume. We also thank the airport management for the hard work that led to this step.
Mossel Bay is open for business and hopes to be able to welcome back not only business people but also holidaymakers and tourists. Facilities in Mossel Bay are focused on the safety and health of our residents and our visitors - it's time to give our economy a well-deserved boost.
I again urge residents to act responsibly and carefully - please wear your face mask, maintain a safe distance from other people, stay at home as if possible, and act responsibly and preventively.
