MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Stalwarts in the African National Congress on Thursday expressed their concern about service delivery in Mossel Bay, saying every effort should be taken to equitably provide services in all wards.
"We cannot afford our communities fighting with one another.
"The whole of town was inconvenienced because the municipality had not paid heed to our calls for traffic calming measures in Mayixhale Street.
"As the ANC, we have repeatedly asked for speed humps, not only in Mayixhale Street, but also in Mali Street, Ndibaniso Street and in Caltizdorp Street.
"There are other streets also that will benefit from traffic calming measures," ward councillor Petrus Lechaba told the Mossel Bay Advertiser during a press briefing.
The ANC chief whip in the Mossel Bay Council and ANC chairperson of the Southern Cape region, Jovan Bruinders, appealed to the municipality to consider the community's insistence on traffic calming measures very seriously.
"We appeal to the municipality to erect the speed humps in all the streets as demanded by the community."
Following the actions of members of the community at Mayixhale Street, where they created makeshift speed humps and dug a trench across the road, he said: "We cannot afford the entire community to be disadvantaged because of a pronounced concern about road safety for the community's young children."
