MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign in Mossel Bay starts on Friday 19 November.
Friday is also International Men's Day.
On Monday, 15 November, parties involved in the campaign this year met at the mayoral office with the newly-elected mayoral committee.
The campaign, involving several partners from other state departments who will participate, is facilitated by the Mossel Bay Municipality and comprises three key events.
On 19 November, the launch of this year's campaign will include a motorcade that will travel from the starting point at the Mossel Bay town hall to Extension 23.
The campaign starts locally on International Men's Day in order to emphasise the role played by men in bringing about transformation and changed behaviour.
The Department of Correctional Services and Community Corrections will play a key role today in explaining the process which takes place once an offender starts serving a sentence in a correctional centre. It will also focus on how the offender, victim and society need to engage as part of restorative justice.
The campaign continues on 25 November with an awareness roadblock in the De Bakke area. Here, mostly men will do the frontline service, distributing information packs to motorists to promote community safety.
On 10 December, women will get their turn to create awareness at a roadblock in De Bakke, performing the same duties.
