MOSSEL BAY BUSINESS NEWS - Frogfoot Networks (Pty) Ltd, a licensed open access fibre infrastructure provider, has announced that it is extending its network coverage to Mossel Bay, with up to 6 600 homes being passed.
"Following the success of the George rollout, Mossel Bay was a natural extension to our Garden Route build. We have a view to bring fibre services to previously underserviced towns, enabling enhancements for connectivity in homes and businesses," says Shane Chorley, Head of Sales at Frogfoot.
The network rollout started in early February in the Heiderand area, with Heiderand being the first suburb to go live on the network in early August.
Following the success of this rollout, Frogfoot decided to expand into further areas of Mossel Bay.
Frogfoot will continue in a phased approach over the course of the next year, with the following areas being covered upon completion of the current expansion: Hartenbos, the Point area, Dana Bay, Bay View, Heiderand and Mossel Bay central.
A major advantage of living in an area covered by an open-access infrastructure provider such as Frogfoot is that users get more choice: with more than 60 ISPs to choose from, they get access to the best pricing and service to suit their needs.
This includes selecting line speeds, whether their package is capped or uncapped, and even if their line is symmetrical (with bandwidth equally shared between uploads and downloads) or asymmetrical (more bandwidth set aside for data traffic in one direction, usually downloads).
According to Chorley, Frogfoot will be trenching in the above mentioned areas in order to lay the fibre optic cables. Trenching will be carried out in a manner that ensures minimal impact for homeowners and communities, while adhering to all the stringent requirements as set by the municipality, in order to be issued with wayleaves. This includes cleaning up of work areas, and reinstatement of pavements, verges and driveways.
"We encourage homeowners and residents to report their queries and issues directly to us, or raise this with the on-site team. They can contact us by phoning 021 448 7225, emailing us at FTTH@frogfoot.com, or sending us a message via Facebook Messenger on our official company page," says Chorley.
How fibre is changing the way SA uses internet
Access to high speed internet is changing household consumption patterns in South Africa, with more people now watching video online, whether it is through their favourite YouTube channels, or from video-on-demand services such as Netflix or Showmax.
It also has a lower latency than other types of connectivity, making it perfect for online gaming.
In addition, with lockdown restrictions still in effect, fibre is the ideal method of connectivity for remote workers who use cloud-based productivity tools and applications and need to be able to upload and download multiple files, or even for content creators, who have to upload large images and videos or use online editing tools.
"More often than not, people tend to underestimate their bandwidth requirements. Since lockdown began, we have noticed that customers now consume at least 30% more data," adds Chorley.
