At present, they have a joint exhibition as part of the Fringe Art Centre's Artist of the Month exhibition. Be quick to visit, though, as merely a week remains before this exciting exhibition comes to an end.
Cherie Dobie's venture into sculptural art brags an inciting show piece with political undertones. Cherie has an eye for the alternative, and her outlook, especially on the contemporary and "upcoming artists", is always fresh and inspiring.
She says, "To me, it's important to stretch the brain with art history and keep up with what's happening in the art world.
"Once I'd grown my three daughters to a reasonable age and have been back teaching for a few years, I realised that with only this life, the time is now... to really get into doing the art I love so much.
"I devoured books about other artists and was inspired by so many, Berthe Morisot (one of the Impressionists) because of her circumstances, in particular. Being encouraged by my husband, I resigned from teaching to attend Voorburg Art School in Great Brak and gave more time to art. I also met up with Gregory Kerr, one of my favourite JCE art lecturers, and signed up for a few workshops with him, spread over the last few years. I have been enjoying sculpture classes with Spies Venter for the last year."
The Artists of the Month at Artbeat Gallery can rightly brag of the sales they have made during their special exhibition, although one particular buyer, the youngest buyer at the gallery thus far, has walked away with Cherie Dobie's "Rhino" and a big smile.
Juelles Eloff, aged six, showed an interest in the "Rhino" painting ever since it came in, however her mother thought it to be a passing concern. Only it did not pass, and Juelles asked if she could buy it with her pocket money savings...
"There was no way I could discourage her from making this purchase," says her mother, Charlene, manager of the Gallery.
"She liked the highly symbolic Rhino from the beginning, and encouraging her to save for something special, she made her choice without input or hesitation."
The artist was also kind enough to alter her price in relation to the purchasers' shoe size, however the offer was declined on principle.

The Artbeat Gallery, at 35 Gys Smallberger Street in Mossel Bay, currently hosts an exhibition by Cherie Dobie and Carina Beyers as part of their popular Artist of the Month exhibits.
