MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Celtic music will ring out from the Dias Museum when the Carpe Musicam! orchestra and choir perform.
The concert by the 32-piece orchestra and 40-voice choir takes place tomorrow, 3 March at 19:00.
This unique musical grouping - based in George and comprising members from a large area of the Southern Cape - started as a 16-piece orchestra in July 2015, and has rapidly grown to become a force with which to be reckoned.
Already performing 12 to 15 concerts annually in George and Sedgefield, the artists will be bringing their special musical treatments and light-hearted style to the Dias Museum for the first time since 2015, and if enough interest is shown, they hope to make Mossel Bay a permanent feature on their performance map.
The orchestra will perform popular Celtic-style treats such as a selection from Lord of the Dance, Danny Boy with a slow, big band Swing treatment, Fiddle-me-oo-re-i-re-a!, the haunting Irish legend by Robert Kerr, and the lively Scottish Rondo by Hans-André Stamm.
The choir will join the orchestra to provide the finishing touches to Morning Has Broken, Irish Rhapsody by Clare Grundman and Requiem for a Soldier by Michael Kamen.
As the moon is making its second blue moon appearance for 2018 in March, it will be honoured with Moon River and Moonlight Serenade.
Captain Jack Sparrow will be making an appearance in a selection from Pirates of the Caribbean and the orchestra and choir will debut their brand new version of Highland Cathedral with Hannes Wannenburg (tenor) and Rob Onraet (bass) doing the honours before being joined by the choir.
Tickets are priced at R100 and will be available at the door from 18:15 on the evening.
